EXHAUST SYSTEM ?
Exhaust play an important role discharging the product of combustion out.If the flow throughout the exhaust system isn't smooth and had too much restriction along the flow,your car performance wouldn't be at the best as what you all wanted.
First of all lets talk about whats its all about in an exhaust.What are the parts and function.
1)Exhaust Manifold/Header
This is the first point of contact for the exhaust gases after they exit the cylinder head. It’s also a commonly upgraded item where heavy cast manifolds are swapped out for tubular headers. The idea behind upgrading to an exhaust header typically comes down to increasing the exhaust piping diameter as well as increasing exhaust scavenging by aligning the exhaust pulses in a favorable fashion.
Exhaust manifolds header also come in few different types,some with equal length and some are not.This header then further have 2 types, the 4-2-1 and the 4-1. 4-2-1 means that from four exhaust tube is then divided to 2 the converge into 1. 4-1 means that from 4 exhaust tube directly converge into 1.
2) Catalytic converter
This is the device which allows you to still breathe the air while you’re visiting Los Angeles. It takes the incoming NOx, CO, and unburnt hydrocarbons from the exhaust and “converts” it into much less harmful N2, O2, CO2, and H2O.Some people have done a cat delete which means they remove the cat to get a better flow of exhaust but by doing this your car emission would be more harmful to the environment and your car wouldn't pass the inspection by your law enforcement . I would recommend changing into a performance cat instead .
Resonator
Though it’s not a necessary portion of an exhaust, it’s often included as it helps to eliminate noise. Resonators work by rejecting sound waves and canceling each other out, and they’re typically tuned for a specific frequency in which the engine noise is loud or undesirable.The resonator is located at middle along the system.Some car who had a resonator delete would had experience drone noise which is a very noisy for my opinion,but some still do it to have a better exhaust flow. Change to a performance resonator instead.You cant save money if you want your car to be fast.
Muffler
Last but not least,muffler.There are many types of mufflers, but the goal is pretty much the same: eliminate noise. One of the most common ways they work is by redirecting the airflow. Along the way, the exhaust passes through porous pipes which allow the exhaust gases to expand into sound deadening material, minimizing the noise that finally exits the tailpipe. Aftermarket muffler comes in variety of brand and diameter.There are 2 different flow of the muffler, the s flow and straight flow.S flow muffler is not that loud and very suitable for daily driving as it also provide the back pressure that most car needed.A straight flow muffler often louder.

IMPORTANT NOTE
These are the basic funda that you guys should know but its not it.There is more things should be in mind when upgrading your exhaust like your engine cc,manual or automatic transmission, your stock piping of the exhaust,diameter of resonator and muffler.I wold recommend you going to an exhaust specialist or read in car forum about your car before doing any mods on your exhaust. If your exhaust upgrade is not suitable it would cause many unwanted things such as decrease in power,high fuel consumption and worst check engine light if you disturb any sensors.
