SCIENCE COMPETITION

            Nowadays, science is very important for the advancement of the technologies in all aspects. The education have established STEM learning in this 20’s century. The term STEM means Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. In is good for younger generation to start their education with applying STEM in their daily life as it could boost the IQ in thinking and will create a better and knowledgeable person. There are many STEM competition held all around the world. For STEM competition there are many categories like biological, engineering mathematical and more.

            In January 2016, I took part in a Science Competition that is “Tunas Saintis” it is held at MRSM Besut, Terengganu. During that time, my project is to make a prototype of B-Fuel from combination of grass and enzymes. Here we go…

            At UniKL MiCET, Malacca. It was the place we went for every steps to make the project. The best part of this UniKL is the facilities of the university is the latest and the staff are very friendly as well as the students. We are accompanied by a professor named Prof Nor Afifah Khalil. She was very helpful to help us in guiding us to make the steps in the lab. We really need supervise and guidance from her as we are have never use such equipment in the lab. It was very dangerous and hazardous as the project is using Concentrated Sulphuric Acid. Another thing that was awesome was that the lab was always clean. Every time we entered the lab, we need to wear a lab coat, eye protection and hand gloves. It is a safety procedure so that if any spill of chemical it could protect us by indirectly touching our skin.

            In this project, we used some special equipments that was the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, UV Spectrophotometer, pH Meter, and incubator. Before using this equipments we must note the volume of each chemical and the time duration for the process by using the equipments. It was quite hard to calculate the time process as it was an advance project for our age. In this case, the professor helped calculating it. It is very important to measure and have an accurate timing as it will give a differ result in the end. In our project, we need to neutralize the solution and it was a very quick process.

 

For me here is just a starting of my life to the world of science technology. There is much more things that I could learn in future and here I would also like to give an appreciation thank to UniKL MICET in assisting my friends and I in doing the project. To those who are in the science career, I hope that you could make more new projects that could save our Earth. The recommendation is to reuse the useful waste products to make something new as it could lessen the waste in this world. By doing this kind of projects also the pollution index could drop as it gives a huge impact. Science is very important in our daily life.
