Like normal human beings, every single of us should have at least one idol to be admired.
Anyone can be our idol. Such as an artist, a football player, a warrior or even
our parent itself. But, what is the definition of an idol ? Idol can be defined
as a person who is loved, admired or respected a lot by others. For me, I personally
choose Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as my idol because Tun Dr. Mahathir is a very
knowledgeable person.

Tun Dr.
Mahathir is a Malaysian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Malaysia
for two times. The first one was from 1981 until 2003 and the second was in
2018 to 2020. He was born on 10 July 1925 and raised in Alor Setar, Kedah. He
is a member of the Parliament of
Malaysia for the Langkawi constituency. I am proud of him because his political
career has spanned more than 70 years since the first time he joined the
political line.

Mahathir was born on 10 July 1925 and raised in Alor Setar, Kedah. Mahathir was
a hardworking school student and very disciplined. Discipline imposed by his
father motivated him to keep on studying. He becomes fluent in English well and
won a position in a selective English medium secondary school. Then, he went
into a small business selling coffee and later selling banana fritters while
school closed during the Japanese occupation of Malaysia in World War II. After
the war, he graduated from secondary school with high marks and enrolled to
continue to study medicine at the King Edward VII College of Medicine in
Singapore. After finishing his degree, Mahathir worked as a physician in
government service. He was the town’s first Malay physician, and a successful
one.

Mahathir had
been politically active since the end of the Japanese Occupation of Malaya when he
joined protests against the granting of citizenship to non-Malays under the
short-lived Malayan Union. While at college, he contributes a student journal in
which he fiercely promoted Malay rights such as restoring Malay as an official
language. Mahathir became active in UMNO by the time of the first general election
for the independent state of Malaya in 1959 and he was the chairman of the
party in Kedah.

Despite his prominence in UMNO, he was not a candidate in the
1959 election, ruling himself out following a disagreement with the Prime
Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. By 1977, he had risen to deputy prime minister
and in 1981, he has sworn in as prime minister after the resignation of Hussien
Onn.
